All video chat platforms handle audio differently—turns out, these platforms use noise suppression or “voice isolation” features by default that can sometimes cause your voice to cut in and out, especially in group calls.
Here’s how you can turn those features off and hopefully clear things up:
Open Zoom and click the gear icon in the top-right to open Settings.
Go to the Audio tab.
Under “Suppress background noise,” select Low or Off.
Scroll to the bottom and click Advanced:
Set Echo Cancellation to Auto.
Uncheck “Signal processing by Windows audio device drivers” (if you see it).
Optionally enable “Original Sound for Musicians” for a clearer audio feed.
While in a meeting, you can also click “Turn on Original Sound” at the top-left to send your mic’s audio more directly.
While in a Meet, click the three dots (⋮) in the bottom-right.
Select Settings, then click the Audio tab.
If available, turn Noise Cancellation to Off.
Open Microsoft Teams.
Click your profile picture in the top-right.
Select Settings > Devices.
Scroll down to the Noise suppression dropdown.
Choose one of the following options:
Auto – Default (adjusts based on your environment)
Low – Minimal filtering; good for clear voice if you’re in a quiet room
High – Best for removing background noise like typing or fans, but may distort voice in group calls
🔔 Try setting this to Low if others say you’re cutting out or getting clipped during speech.
🎧 Extra Tip: If you’re using the built-in microphone, switching to an external one may also improve clarity.
