Outlook - Report Suspicious message

If a suspicious message comes in, the best thing to do is to let the experts analyze it. Outlook comes with a Report Message feature that removes the message from your inbox while district IT staff and Microsoft security experts can inspect the message and determine if it safe or not.  If it is determined to be safe, it is returned to the user's inbox, if not, it gets flagged and further action is taken to prevent similar attempts.

To use this feature, you need to look for "Report Message" or "Report" button in Outlook.  This will vary depending on which version of outlook you are using, the most common examples are below:

In Outlook on the web or "New Outlook":

Select one or more messages, select Report, and then select Report phishing or Report junk in the dropdown list.

In Outlook 2019 or earlier:

Select an email message from the list.
Do one of the following steps based on your Ribbon Layout configuration in Outlook:

Classic Ribbon: Select Report Message, and then select Junk or Phishing in the dropdown list.

Simplified Ribbon: Select  More commands > Protection section > Report Message > select Junk or Phishing.
