What is Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA)?
Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) is like having a double lock on your front door. It adds an extra layer of security to protect your accounts. Instead of just using a password, MFA requires you to prove your identity in two or more ways.
Downloading and Installing Microsoft Authenticator
For Android Users:
- Go to Google Play: On your Android device, open Google Play.
- Search for “Microsoft Authenticator”: Find the app and install it.
For iPhone Users:
- Go to the App Store: On your iPhone, open the App Store.
- Search for “Microsoft Authenticator”: Download and install the app.
Adding Your School Account to Microsoft Authenticator
- Open Microsoft Authenticator: Agree to Allow Notification access.
- School Account Registration: Click on Setup for Work or School
- Scan the QR code: On your computer, step through the setup wizard until it presents a QR code. Point the phone at the code and it will finish adding the account to your phone.
- Enter the numbers. You will now see a two-digit number on your computer screen, and your phone will automatically prompt you to enter the code. Do this now and click YES. *If you have a PIN/Fingerprint/FaceID set on your phone, it will ask you to enter it after you tap YES
That's It! From now on, if anyone tries to sign in to your account, you will get a notification. If it wasn't you, just click "It's Not Me" and it will deny the login request and notify IT so we can take further action. This will occasionally pop up when YOU login to your own device, but not very often. I personally get a prompt on mine once every couple months, and that's when I'm logging in from off-site or on a new device.
Remember, MFA is like having a superhero sidekick – it makes you stronger! 🦸♂️🔒
