Cleaning Guidelines

For Classroom Chromebooks & Newline Interactive TVs

Chromebooks — Cleaning Steps

Always power off and unplug before cleaning. Never spray liquids directly on the device.

  • ✅ DoPower off and unplug before cleaning. Ensures safety and prevents short circuits.
  • ✅ Do Clean the screen with a dry or lightly damp microfiber cloth. Wipe gently in straight, overlapping passes.
  • ✅ Do Clean the keyboard & outer case with alcohol-based disinfectant wipes. Squeeze out extra liquid before use.
  • ❌ Don’t Spray cleaner directly on the Chromebook. Liquid can enter ports and damage components.
  • ❌ Don’t Use bleach, ammonia, abrasive pads, or paper towels on screens. These can scratch or cloud the display.
Tip for Shared Devices: Wipe screens daily and disinfect keyboards between classes if multiple students use the same Chromebook.

Newline Interactive TVs — Cleaning Steps

Cloth first, cleaner on cloth (never directly). Power off and allow the panel to cool before cleaning.

  • ✅ DoPower off before cleaning. Warm glass shows streaks more easily.
  • ✅ Do Use a soft microfiber cloth, dry or slightly damp with water. Light pressure avoids damaging touch layers.
  • ✅ Do For stubborn spots, apply screen-safe cleaner to the cloth. Never spray directly on the screen.
  • ❌ Don’t Use alcohol, ammonia, glass cleaner, or abrasives. These can damage protective coatings and touch sensitivity.
  • ❌ Don’t Spray liquids directly onto the panel or into bezels. Excess liquid can seep inside and cause failure.
Health & Safety: Allow all surfaces to dry completely before turning devices back on. Wash hands after using disinfectants. Store wipes and cleaners securely out of student reach.

Best Practices

  • Frequency: Wipe Chromebooks at least weekly; more often if shared. Clean Newline panels as needed (avoid daily scrubbing to preserve coatings).
  • Cloth Care: Wash microfiber cloths regularly to prevent buildup of dirt/oils that can scratch screens.
  • Stubborn Marks: For fingerprints or smudges, dampen a cloth with a 50/50 mix of distilled water and isopropyl alcohol (70%).
  • Do a Final Dry Wipe: Always finish with a dry microfiber cloth to remove streaks.
Reminder: Never let students apply cleaning products directly. Staff should handle device cleaning, especially with disinfectants.
